The owl

I search the forest tree by tree Whilst looking for an Owl I look and look but cannot find That clever silent fowl. Across the hoary frozen ground I walk along with craning neck I do look up and all around And quietly hiss O heck! The hoarfrost crackles under foot The trees are leafless, bare and brown In rotted hole above my head He blinks his eyes whilst looking down He flies on silent wings at night And from this hole that is his house He softly hoots and scans the ground To find his meal a trembling mouse. That clever silent flying fowl One day O yes one day I will see If I just act the trembling mouse Perhaps it will come to me. Said he the stranger that I met The owl drops pellets on the ground So if you want to find that fowl Do humbly bow your head look down Poul Thorsen 2013
I search the forest tree by tree
Whilst looking for an Owl
I look and look but cannot find
That clever silent fowl.
Across the hoary frozen ground
I walk along with craning neck
I do look up and all around
And quietly hiss O heck!
The hoarfrost crackles under foot
The trees are leafless, bare and brown
In rotted hole above my head
He blinks his eyes whilst looking down
He flies on silent wings at night
And from this hole that is his house
He softly hoots and scans the ground
To find his meal a trembling mouse.
That clever silent flying fowl
One day O yes one day I will see
If I just act the trembling mouse
Perhaps it will come to me.
Said he the stranger that I met
The owl drops pellets on the ground
So if you want to find that fowl
Do humbly bow your head look down

I guess this was not in your garden; or are you that lucky to have one?

No not our garden. It was in the forest close by. It has lived there for a number of years.
