While I waited for the family to come down from the London Eye, I walked along the South Bank of the Thames. Around the Eye and the exhibitions it was a maelstrom of people. Just a little further down the river there was peace and tranquility. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. Camera Fuji x100s
This was an image, that begged to be taken. It was only when I got home and began editing, that I paid attention to the persons behind her. Something interesting was on the go behind me. As a street photographer, I must remember, to look behind me. Camera. Nikon Coolpix P310
It was somewhere in the Spitafields area that I came across this scene. It was just to good too be missed. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. Camera Nikon D5000
If you arrive early, the great centre court at the British Museum is usually sparsely populated. It soon fills with tourists and groups of school children and the Cafe tables quickly fills up. This visitor sat quietly studying his guide book before the onrush. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. Camera Fuji x100s
One Sunday morning we paid a visit to Southwark Cathedral. It was just towards the end of the service and after a short while people began to leave. “There has been a church on this site since AD 606. There may well have been a church here even earlier. Southwark Cathedral is the oldest cathedral church building in London, and archaeological evidence shows there was Roman pagan worship here well before that. Significantly, Southwark stands at the oldest crossing point of the tidal Thames at what was the only entrance to the City of London across the river for many centuries. It is not only a place of worship but also of hospitality to every kind of person: princes and paupers, prelates and prostitutes, poets, playwrights, prisoners and patients have all found refuge here.” For best viewing click on image to enlarge. We met them on Borough High Street just outside London Bridge underground station. I didn’t ask what they were up to or where they were going, but they were very cheerful and quite happy to be photographed. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. Camera Nikon D700
I used to see several in London some years back but thought that this shoeshine in Burlington Arcade was the only one left. To be sure I checked on the net. This showed, that there are several companies offering shoeshine services at exclusive venues such as some of the Park Lane hotels and Leaden Hall Market. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. “Located a few minutes walk from Charing Cross station and close to the Embankment. One of London’s most unusual pubs, The Ship & Shovell is on two sides of the street with the cellar linking the two sides below. On the north side is a large traditional welcoming London Victorian pub whilst across the way the snug bars and alcoves make this the perfect place to drop in for a pint to escape the London fog or the tourist hordes.” For best viewing click on image to enlarge. This gent occupied one of the many benches that are found on the Victoria Embankment along the Thames reading his paper. He didn’t look like a typical tablet user, but then nowadays one can never tell. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. Camera Nikon Coolpix P310
