Pick of the day

A number of years ago I had occasion to visit Turku in Finland. It was in the middle of February. It was cold and dark, as i it can be in Finland that time of the year. My hotel room overlooked the market square. Every morning this person inspected all the dustbins on the square, looking for something of use or value. For best viewing click on image to enlarge. Finland isn’t a poor country, and he does not look like a ‘down and out’, maybe it was just compulsive with him – or maybe he thought “I’ll just see if that bloke in the Hotel is watching me again”.

The passing was carefully planned. One part entailed it traveling at high speed to press it down in the water. The bridge is magnificent with its one mile clear span. I used it a lot while I was still working.

    Hi John
As you know Denmark is also a wealthy country, but we still get lots of homeless and “bag people” here.
Turku is where many the cruise liners for Royal Carribian have been build. I was there while the Freedom of the Seas was being fittest out and went on board on a guided tour. Fascinating. Two month later she sailed under the bridge across Storebaelt. The last cruise liner to pass under that bridge cleared it by 25cm.

Somebody did their homework to get the clearance for that ship. The bridge only existed as an idea when we lived there.
      Have a good Sunday.

Probably looking for bottles – notice the plastic bag. Not everyone in the Nordic Counties is rich an affluent. A fine study with a story.
